Global News has reported that council has approved the city's strategy with regard to our "Climate Emergency" (https://globalnews.ca/news/8967784/city-council-greenlights-climate-strategy-calgary-net-zero-by-2050/#:~:text=The%20strategy%20projects%20that%20all,industrial%20buildings%20in%20the%20city.)
The video attached to the story comments that people are "singing the praises" of the plan and that "Calgarians are behind this".
But how accurate is the message? By its own admission the story indicates, "around 100 climate activists rallied on the front steps of city hall to encourage council to give the strategy it’s blessing." The counterpoint that wasn't reported on or even mentioned is this:
Over 10,000 signatures have been collected on a petition to stop the $87 billion dollar plan.
The news item was that council approved the plan. Bias was added when the video showed people in support of the plan. To report without bias would mean that the support part of the decision would have been left out, or countered with the fact that many are also opposed to the decision.
Always question what is presented to you and do some fact checking.
